We arrived at Avignon in early evening.7 viewsAvignon, a city in southeastern France’s Provence region, is set on the Rhône River. From 1309 to 1377, it was the seat of the Catholic popes. It remained under papal rule until becoming part of France in 1791. This legacy can be seen in the massive Palais des Papes (Popes' Palace) in the city center, which is surrounded by medieval stone ramparts. We will stay here for the rest of the week. We will have two days to explore itApr 30, 2017

We continued sailing down stream in river Rhone toward Avignon after the morning tour. There are many locks that we have to pass. This one lock in the picture is Bollene, a rather massive drop of 75 feet.5 viewsApr 30, 2017
